Congratulations on a great fall season!! So proud of every girl in the program and so thankful for Guard parents who supported their daughter every step of the way. We appreciate the focused attention to detail and willingness to learn, change, and go with every ebb & flow of the season.
Here is the info for this last fall week...
Monday = Dinner & A Show Fundraiser (ticket required for entry) REQUIRED EVENT! Tigs report in Red Costume at 5:30 for band/guard dinner provided. Parents, Family, Friends with tickets report to lunchroom at 6:30 p.m. for dinner. Show at 7 p.m. in the stadium...please be prepared for cool weather. No concessions.

Thursday = Same as Wednesday above. No practice afterschool.
Friday = 5th block run thru of fall show/Pep Rally. Friday morning wear Tigerette 17 t and jeans...bring black bag with poms/pep dress on hanger/jazz shoes/black bike shorts to guard room first thing that morning. Every Tig leaves campus at 3:05 and reports back @ 5 p.m. dressed in Red Costume @ 5 p.m. for band/guard dinner provided. Make sure you have signed parent note if you are leaving Hueytown game with an adult other than your parent. This will be our last game of the fall season.
Other Important Reminders...
All Tig rules, regulations, policies and procedures apply now and during the remainder of the school year. Those already on probation need to be very mindful from now until May 25th that another visit to ISS or a suspension...for any reason...will remove you from the squad.
Tigerette Budget...Guard money was spent & financial sheets for Fall 2017 will go home with girls Wednesday this week.
Band Fees...all took care of this...Thank You!!
Home Concessions...parents worked or prepaid buyout or owe a no show fee NOW...Thank You!!
Off Season Fundraising...Concert Band girls are required to continue to participate in band fundraisers. WG girls are required to fundraise for WG.
Cruise Field Trip...payments due monthly...watch our Remind texts...please keep those notifications turned ON!!
The Summit Christmas Parade is Friday afternoon/night, November 17th...REQUIRED EVENT. Tigs will need a WHITE Turtleneck, WHITE MATTE leggings, WHITE fold down socks, and WHITE converse or ked-like shoes. We will practcie a couple days during school that week. Candy Cane Costumes will be issued the day of the event. Timeline TBD.
Band/Guard Christmas Party is Friday, December 8th...it is required!! Cute Christmas Casual dress. Students will bring an assigned dish to share...there will be dancing & karaoke for those interested. It is always a blast!! Moms welcome...no siblings or non-band friends. More details posted closer to event.
Tigerette Tryout sign up for next year will also happen in December. A new physical form will be required for tryouts. No late forms will be accepted this year. Girls must have everything done, ready, and turned in on time or they will not be permitted to participate...this includes returning vets!! Tigerette Tryouts = January 2018....we scheduled tryouts in January again this year to avoid conflict with state contest dates. A NEW doctor signed physical form will be due at tryouts. Sign up and more tryout info will be given out first week of December. Our Captains will be needed daily afterschool that week to assist with teaching tryout material.
Concert Band and Winter Guard will begin fully next week. Guard girls received a grade 1st 9 weeks which reflected their work as a Tigerette on the field. Looking ahead their work ethic in class along with unexcused absences or checkouts from band class will impact 2nd 9 weeks band grade. The only “excused” absence from class are ones labeled “P”...given when the student produces a doctor’s excuse or when the student is given a “Principal excused absence” for a college day or something similar. Band/WG is your scheduled class and it is a graded subject. Do not show up late with a pass from other teachers, & do not ask to leave the band class to do work for other classes you have scheduled. Band is not an off period or your study hall. Please also remember that our BDs also have input as to those chosen for leadership roles in coming years....a girl who is “stellar” on the field but a
“stinker” the remainder of the time should not expect selection for leadership.
Holiday Concert, District Concert, Spring Concert...all TBA...these are required events!! Employers can’t require a student to miss a required school event or a rehearsal for an event. If written verification for employer is needed see one of us immediately. It is STUDENT'S responsibility to inform the employer about school required events in a timely manner...failure to do so will not excuse your absence. Please make sure that you listen to Directors for information that will be announced about these events.
Schedule Changes...please be reminded that any student requesting a schedule change out of band for 2nd semester automatically removes themselves as a member of the band program & from their position as a Tigerette. No schedule changes permitted mid-semester. Written request from Parent for 2nd semesters is due this month to the Guidance office. If you are not following procedure/rules, if you tell others you don’t like guard, or if you are posting negative comments/pics/snaps on social media...you obviously might want to consider leaving at semester. We want every girl to be happy and the group honestly only need girls involved who enjoy what they are doing and really want to be there!!
Off Season Grades...Tigs must maintain an overall 70% average each grading period. Parents will be notified in writing if there is a problem with grades. Members on “Grade Probation” will be dismissed from the squad if they do not improve/maintain an overall 70%.
Off Season Conduct...Tigs are still expected to maintain Satisfactory conduct. Stay out of the office!! Follow the dress code, do not be tardy, do not skip class, do not cheat, do not lie, be respectful, keep your lips (and everything else) to yourself, be a kind, sweet, cooperative young lady at school, in your social life, and at home!!! If school, social, and home problems are impacting your Guard involvement those issues are being logged and you must understand fully that those type issues can impact leadership decisions in the future.
Off Season Hair...Tigs agreed to maintain a shoulder length hairstyle. While we feel sure that some of you may need a good trim as the season ends, do not think for a second that a chin or shoulder touching length hairstyle, or drastic color change is okay...we view this as defiance. Very simply stated, it is not what you agreed to do when you tried out last year so don’t do it!!! COLOR = NATURAL!!! Please have hairdressers do any/highlighting/lowlighting/coloring by working off your natural hair color...the real color of your hair is the one growing at the roots. Again...know that continual hair issues can impact leadership decisions down the road.
Off Season Weight...extra pounds weaken your ability to move & perform with ease. PLEASE eat healthy, drink water & work out to get in shape...tryouts for next year are in about 12 weeks.
Off Season Skills...please take an honest look at skills in all areas and work to improve in the off season. Flags, weapons, and body!! Girls are not guaranteed a spot on next year’s squad. We had several girls who worked soooo hard but struggled to keep up all fall...it would really be in their best interested to enroll in a local dance class and/or take private spin lessons from one of our Seniors during the winter & spring to help grow their ability & performance skills.
Tigs and Winter or Spring Sport Participation
Coaches are recruiting girls because of their strong work ethic. We have NO PROBLEM with Tigs being involved and participating in other school extracurricular activities as long as all involved (student, parent, coaches) understand the following...
1. Tigerette and Band commitments including all in school/out of school practice and all events scheduled for the groups must be the #1 priority. (Winter Guard members are not permitted to participate in other sports during NOV DEC JAN FEB MARCH 1st and first weekend of April 2017)
2. Tigs choosing to or sharing time is not an option when a conflict arrises. Tigs must honor the first commitment they made and that was Band/Guard last January when they tried out and made Tigerette/Fall Guard.
3. All Tigerettes must & will be in their assigned band class all year long. Tigs will not be excused from their assigned band class for anything other than team travel to an off campus game, meet, or match at the time designated by coach in faculty email. They may not miss band class to practice another sport.
Please remember as well...
Tigerettes will be involved in tryouts for just over a week in January and that Tigerette Tryout Clinic attendance is now required by Jefcoed so there is NOT an option to "choose or share" time that week.
Tigerettes will also be involved in some Cruise prep practice in March!!

Week 8 & Hoover Contest!!
Moms...we need your support. It's that time of the year when teen drama rears it's ugly head. The girls have been together soooo much since the start of camp, they are physically/mentally exhausted from constant fall activity and so now they start to get "snippy/ugly" with each other and everyone else around them. The girls have worked too hard for too many years to let mouthing, bitterness, and hurt feelings ruin these last few weeks of fall guard. Donna & I will appreciate it if you will text your daughters right now with a "cease and desist order" regarding their involvement in any teen drama. Thanks! Rebecca & Donna

Each of the 32 girls will need to bring their own JUMBO shopping bag and ALL are expected to bring something gifty to put in everyone's bags. Doesn't have to be a certain price or a certain type thing, just needs to be girly, & fun!! Let your wallet be the guide on what you purchase/make and be sure you send at least 32 of whatever gift & food item you choose...see below. Please remember we have 8 Seniors who deserve some extra special treatment!!

Everything MUST be prepped & ready for distribution when they arrive. Each girl will share her gift with others on the ride home, we will enjoy food items together at that time as well...our Seniors and a few others will share their final thoughts on the season.

Homecoming 2017!!
Vandalism vs. Pranks!!
Please make sure that you know & respect the difference in vandalism and pranks when you are out & about during Homecoming week!
Vandalism is anything done to cause harm to a person, a place, or a thing. Vandalism leaves damage that requires "fixing". Vandalism causes people to get in trouble, it damages property, it puts our school activities at risk, and most importantly it puts safety & well being at risk. Examples: spray painting, sugaring, salting, glittering, egging, shave creaming, breaking, tearing up, trenching, stealing, use of profane/suggestive language on signs, or tampering with pets. Vandalism is wrong!!
Pranks are things done that don't cause damage or harm to a person, place, or thing. TP in trees/yards, bed sheet (from thrift store) signs draped over fencing or rails, sidewalk chalk are all examples of pranks that don't require anything but a little cleanup...no damage left after cleanup.
Parents please know where your babies are and who they are with during homecoming week...don't need anyone in trouble and more importantly don't need anyone injured/harmed in any way.
Please know as well that Tigs are welcomed to TP director yards but Tigs will also be involved in those yards being cleaned up next Sunday...want kids to have fun but we are simply too busy & too tired to clean up the mess! Please respect teachers who do not share the same opinion as Rebecca & I...some teachers do not want their property touched...stay away from their homes!!
Check back Monday afternoon for more Homecoming details.

TIGERETTES ARE NOT PERMITTED TO LEAVE EVENTS EARLY!
Tigerettes are expected to behave in an appropriate manner at all times. In or out of uniform every choice made has a consequence. Do not jeopardize your reputation, or the reputation of our Guard, by participating in public displays of affection (PDA), ignore and do not respond to ugly talk or gestures. All school, band, guard rules apply at school events/activities. Pay attention, make sure your words and your actions stay positive at all times.
Tigerettes are required to be in the company of at least two other Guard members at all times at all rehearsals & games...both home & away...there is safety in numbers...safety from vultures and also safety from the rumor mill!!!
Students only in the bandroom and school buildings on practice & game days.
Please don’t forget that laps are required when Tigs are late or when they show up unprepared. We thank you in advance for being a responsible member and parent...arriving on time and having all items needed for rehearsal/games/contests/exhibitions. We also appreciate you all “not whining” when lack of preparation or time management sends a girl around the field.
We thank you in advance for your cooperation regarding policy issues and ask that you remember they are not intended to cause student/parent problems, but are put in place to help ensure the safety of participants & smooth operation of our group as a whole.
Other notes...
As was discussed at the required Booster meeting Band & Tigs will no longer have a third quarter break. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why go??????????????????
Last but not least...have you ever entered a competition you knew you may not win? Yes mams/sirs...we sure have and looking back at all the times we didn’t win made more of a difference in our group life than all the times we entered a competition knowing we had an advantage and would win. Here are some reasons we should always want to face high quality competitors...
1. You/we will push your perceived limits farther then you ever thought you could. Whether it is the external pressure of the competition or the energy on the field, you will always push harder than you think you can when people are watching and you know your score counts.
2. Competition is a good way to take a snapshot of where you are right now. It gives you a concrete result that you can test against at any point in the future. Competition is testing, practicing, and retesting. No matter the type of competition, it allows you to say “this is where I am with this particular thing right now.” It allows you to see where you are and you see where you want to be!!
3. It’s a whole lot of fun! The camaraderie that forms with a group of people who are competing is even deeper than with a group of people who just happen to be doing the same thing side-by-side. The best times you’ll ever have is the bus ride home or going out to eat together to celebrate the end of a competition. There is a chemical release in your brain of endorphins (your feel-good, happy hormone) after the completion of a hard competition, and it’s even more intense when you are surrounded by the smiling faces of people who did it with you or cheered you on. There is no better feeling.
4. The joy is in the competition, not the practice. Band/Guard practice is done in order to perform the show well at games and contests. No one is ok with just going to practice everyday. If all you ever do is practice OR if all you do is only go where you know you will win...then you can’t say you are really a competitor of that sport; you are merely a fan. At some point you have to be willing to throw your hat in the ring...and to grow/learn that ring must be filled with tough competitors.
Hebrews 12:1 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”
Philippians 4:13 “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”
Psalm 37:23-24 “The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.”
LET'S ALL WORK TOGETHER TO MAKE SATURDAY A FUN DAY FOR EVERY STUDENT & PARENT INVOLVED!!!

Guard members are expected to behave in an appropriate manner at all times....even more so at school events like the Football Jamboree game this Friday night. Attendance at the Jamboree game is optional and the responsibility of the parent. Guard does not dress alike for this game but you still need to LOOK GOOD!! In or out of uniform every choice you make has a consequence. Do not jeopardize your reputation, or the reputation of our group, by participating in public displays of affection, ignore and do not respond to ugly talk or gestures. All school rules, band rules, Guard rules apply at school events/activities. Pay attention, make sure your words and your actions stay positive at all times!!
Guard members will dress alike every Friday starting this week...see SINK THE SPARTANS above!! The required dress will be announced each day of that school week. Girls will be assigned a THEME. Make sure to listen, plan, and do what is expected....no checkouts or calls home for forgotten items.
Before games and rehearsals...Members are given a specific “report time”. Guard members are not permitted to stay on campus afterschool. All must leave campus and are not permitted to return to campus until 15 minutes prior to report time...no exceptions!! Guard can’t be on campus unsupervised. If you live too far to make it back you will need to find a friend who lives closer to go home with that afternoon.
-----------------------------------------------------------
No boyfriend or friend/visitors at rehearsals!!!
-----------------------------------------------------------
Parents are welcomed to observe Tuesday night rehearsals. Please make
sure that noise is kept to a minimum since we are in the process
of instructing & learning. Also observers should please sit in the end
sections of the stadium only. The middle section is used by directors for
instruction during the rehearsal. Students only in the bandroom or school
buildings on Tuesday nights. Thanks in advance for your cooperation!

Mid-Summer Update!!
BOLD PRINT UPDATED JULY 19th @ 9:45 a.m.
Hope everyone is having a great summer!!
Plans and prep are underway for a great fall experience. Please make sure you use these last two weeks before camp to have yourself fully prepared...healthy eating habits, exercise, and lots of stretching will help get/keep you in shape. Get outside and acclimate yourself to sun & heat. Good physical health means you look better which means you will be stronger at practice and a more confident performer on the field. We all know that a major part of good physical, mental, & spiritual health is remaining totally free of any/all chemicals that impair your abilities and judgements. Avoiding smoking, alcohol, and drugs are a MUST for you to be all God intended when He created you!! As part of your family life & as part of your guard/social life...24/7 it is important and DOES matter who you are, who you are with, and what you do!!!
Moms please don't forget the need to have your daughter prepared for being self sufficient and independent as part of this group. The things we need to see day one in our girls are listed in a previous post.
Full Fall Schedule will go home as part of the band handbook on July 24th. It is a sign and return document that will be due back on Tuesday morning. All should expect the JefCoEd Band Jamboree to be one of the last two Saturdays in September, as well expect 1-3 Saturday contests in October.
List of Goals we have for the fall were also listed in a previous post. Please review & attempt...the better your individual skills are the better we are as a group!!
CRUISE DEPOSIT DUE AUGUST 1ST!! SEE CRUISE REMIND FOR DETAILS!!
Guard Camp Schedule (different from band & percussion)
Monday, July 24th - Wednesday, July 26th = 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (bring your own lunch/drink or money to purchase from concessions)
Thursday, July 27th = NO PRACTICE DUE TO SCHOOL REGISTRATION!
Friday, July 28th = 8 a.m. to NOON (no lunch)
Monday, July 31st - Wednesday, August 2nd = same as above!
Thursday, August 3rd = pictures for football program at 8:30 a.m...more details TBA!
Tuesday, August 8th = Practice TBA based on guard camp progress (could be all day??)
Thursday, August 10th = After-school practice until 5 p.m.
OGHS school registration will be held on campus July 27th...no online registration this year. Tigs will be permitted to leave practice to register during their assigned grade level time and then return to practice. Tigs are required to pay the $100 band fee along with other required fees at the time of school registration.
Guard Members MUST leave campus promptly at their dismissal time everyday...girls must have someone ready to pickup or a pre-arranged ride home ready to leave campus at dismissal time everyday. Guard members are not permitted to be on campus without supervision and thus are not permitted to "hang out" during band or percussion rehearsals.
Any absence from required activities must have a verifiable doctor excuse, a verifiable court date, or a verifiable death in immediate family. A family emergency is defined as a situation which requires the specific attention of said Guard member and does not occur on a regular basis. A new physical form and/or the attending physician's written "clearance" is required for attendance/participation in guard activities following any illness or hospitalization. Casts, wraps, & supports worn must be accompanied by written instructions from the student's doctor. Work is not an excused absence...if you need a letter documenting your rehearsal schedule for your employer please let us know.
If you are on time...you are late!! Arrive 5 or 10 mins before call time to avoid panic. (Guard Captain is expected 15 minutes before call time and 10 minutes after.) Plan ahead so you don't have to run laps...tardy = 1 lap per minute late...double laps if Captain. We caution Guard members & Parents who drive to/from band to make sure that you maintain a timeline that does not put you at risk for getting a speeding ticket and/or something worse. If you are old enough to drive yourself and others to camp you are old enough to get up and leave the house in plenty of time!!! Guard members are not permitted to leave campus during camp. Students may not be in and out of cars during the day. Make sure you have what you need when you come inside each morning. Forgotten items = more laps to run!!
Here is what you bring to camp with you everyday...Sunscreen, Sunglasses, Water Jug, Beach towel AND yoga mat, Guard gloves, Band-aids (if feet & hands tend to blister), Fem items!! You will need to bring your lunch and a large shopping bag the first day!! You will also bring school flags & weapons first day...leave personal equipment at home.
Here is what you should wear... NO makeup, hair in ponytail, Soffe or Nike type shorts*, Tshirt** Athletic shoes(no converse, keds, or vans), low cut socks *shorts will not be rolled so high that we see cheekage! **due to temp and amount of time we practice we allow tank tops and/or cami style summer tops as long as BRA STRAPS ARE NUDE OR MATCH COLOR. During school you will have to wear a tshirt with your shorts during 5th block every day.
All fall items...uniforms, costumes, pep wear, shoes, bags, etc. will be distributed after lunch the first day of camp. This is always VERY exciting, but does not require Mom's help...Moms will see everything when the girls bring them home that day. Girls will try on every item so we can swap things around and get everyone the best fit possible. So PLEASE wear MODEST white or nude color MODEST STYLE undies that day...we don't need sheer bras and cheeky thongs when playing dress up!! You must keep everything looking new and fresh so NO FALL ITEM are to be worn or carried until the assigned time.
NO PICTURES WEARING OR SHOWING ANY FALL ITEM IS PERMITTED ON SOCIAL MEDIA UNTIL THE DIRECTORS GIVE THE OK!!
Parent must get Director approval on any/every alteration made to any item. Alterations are paid for by the parent. Details concerning alterations will be posted on the blog after fitting the group and see what our needs are for the fall. Note as well...NOBODY should be wearing Guard items...new items or old items the same rule...no friends and no cute boys/boyfriends. We will get lots of stuff that first day so make sure you bring an XLARGE SHOPPING BAG with you to hold it all!!
Please note...Tigerettes with outstanding band debt of any kind will not be issued fall guard items until the debt is paid in full via cash or money order.
BOYS!!! Boyfriends are not permitted at rehearsals. Guard girls who date boys in the band must follow the same rule...you will not be a couple at rehearsals. Please explain this to your boyfriends...if you can't WE WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TOO!!
APPEARANCE...
Please make sure that your hair color and length meet the group guidelines BEFORE arriving the first day of camp. No hair should be too dark or too light. Any highlights must be natural looking. Remember you are expected to work off your natural hair color which is the color at the root and that your hair length must be shoulder or longer when prepared for performance. No bangs. Hair color must remain the same color the entire fall season!! If you have put on a few pounds over the summer please use these remaining two weeks to trim it off. Extra pounds inhibit your ability to move with ease. Cut out sodas, drink lots of water, and make healthy food choices...you will be surprised how successful you will be in getting those pounds to disappear!!
No visible piercings other than ears. Belly piercings must be bandaided flat under shirt for every rehearsal and performance. Visible tattoos must be covered with skincolored waterproof bandaids at every rehearsal and performance. These guidelines also apply during each & every school day as well!!
Looking Ahead...
Info will post here by 1 p.m. each Tuesday during the school year for student & parent review. REMIND will be used as well with updates & reminders. Please do not delete remind texts sent your way...keep them so you have them to refer back to as needed. Tigs responsible for ALL content posted or texted. Please read and re-read before you email one of us. Please remember as well that texting us should happen only in urgent situations. We expect & greatly appreciate your respect of our off time when we are at home with our families.
Lastly please remember that OGHS Tigerettes are expected to set the standard for good behavior, good grades, and a good work ethic. 24/7...at school, at home, and in your social lives we always expect the best from you!! This requires a mind, body, and spirit that is free from anything or anybody that alters your thinking and/or your behavior in a negative way. Review the Tigerette Trait list you received the first day you made guard...if you make a solid effort to make sure you try to display those traits everyday it will make a huge difference in your personal success and as well the success of our group as a whole.
We are sooooooo excited about the fall and hope you are too!! See you on July 24th!!
Hope everyone is having a great summer!!

Summer 2017!
We hope everyone has a great summer!!
PCB August Beach Trip...posted in previous post! Payment is due to Donna at the school by 9 a.m. Fri, May 26th.
Final Grades...report cards should be mailed home the first week of June. You will be contacted that week if we find problems with your academic progress that put you on probation or render you ineligible as a performer.
Plans and prep are underway for great experiences next year. Please make sure you use the summer weeks to have yourself fully prepared...healthy eating habits, exercise, and lots of stretching will help get/keep you in shape. Get outside and acclimate yourself to sun & heat. Good physical health means you look better which means you will be stronger at practice and a more confident performer on the field. As part of your family life & as part of your guard/social life...24/7 it is important and DOES matter who you are, who you are with, and what you do!!!
Moms please don't forget the need to have your daughter prepared for being self sufficient and independent as part of this group. Girls should learn to do their own hair & makeup this summer...full natural color makeup with red tint lip, sock bun, high pony, front pulled up/back down, and flat ironing on top with hair flat ironed straight in the back, loose curls...no bangs or twigs hanging on face. High School girls should already know these things but...ALL TIGS should be prepared to handle their own money, order at concessions, pack a show bag with all they need, put on things like pantyhose/bodystockings/spanx type garments without assistance because regardless of size the group wears them. Guard Moms the old saying "practice makes perfect" is true and this summer is the perfect time to encourage growth & independence by teaching your girl and practicing all these skills.
Goals we have for the fall...we would like for all 32 Tigerettes to be able to do the minimum of a pencil turn, heel to toe march, point march, saute, chasse, jazz run, drop spins, extensions, cones, flips, single pirouette, attitude turn, flag = double toss, single horizontal toss, & lofty praise toss...all with solid hands/feet, height, rotation. Our 12 member fall weapon line should be working to master all of the above plus the following... splits, double pirouette, illusion, barrel roll, flag = 45 behind the back, one turn, high silk toss, high praise toss, rifle = triples/quads & above with solid hands/feet, height/rotation, saber = blade/hilt double/triples...along with any tricks like one turns, hand stands, cartwheels, etc. Again these are simply goals...the better your individual skills & stronger you are physically the better we are as a group!!
Guard Camp Schedule (see previous post!!)
APPEARANCE...
No visible piercings other than ears. Belly piercings must be bandaided flat under shirt for every rehearsal and performance. Visible tattoos must be covered with skincolored waterproof bandaids at every rehearsal and performance. These guidelines also apply during each & every school day as well!!
Off Season Hair...all agreed to maintain a shoulder length hairstyle. While we feel sure that some of you may need a good trim as the school year ends, do not think for a second that a chin length hairstyle is okay...no matter your grade level we view this as defiance...hair must be shoulder length or longer when prepared for performance with no bangs...very simply stated, it is not what you agreed to do when you tried out last January so just don’t do it. HAIR COLOR CHANGE WILL NOT BE PERMITTED DURING MARCHING OR WINTER SEASON. Use summer as the time to play with color if you must but please do not damage your hair. Before we return to camp please have real hairdressers do highlighting/lowlighting/coloring working off your natural hair color...fyi...the real color of your hair is the color growing out of your head at the root.
Off Season Weight...remember that extra pounds weaken your ability to move & perform with ease. Please eat healthy, avoid sodas, drink water, exercise, and stay in shape...any/all uniform/costume alterations are paid for by parents.
RANDOM...
Cell Phones...all girls need one for communication when we get to camp. REMIND must be installed and notifications for that app must be on at all times. If phones scare you or your daughter is not trustworthy please simply find/install parent security apps to monitor/control your daughter's cell habits.
Social Media...in today’s world, social media plays a huge part in our day-to-day lives. In efforts to keep our social media profiles showing nothing but our best, here are a few tips to keeping your profile clean, powerful and positive this summer. First, avoid using offensive or derogatory language on social media sites such as SnapChat, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and avoid all those anonymous posting apps. (make sure your automatic retweets are not set for any accounts that post sensitive items) Lots of people have access to these sites and you want to be sure to present the best YOU possible. Next, keep personal arguments off social media sites and remember to keep your photos respectable. Social media sites are no place for mean words or for photos that suggest anything other than a positive image. One last online behavior to avoid is the most current trend in social media--posting a location, status, or photo that "appears positive" but in reality is only being put out there to jab at someone or hurt their feelings...a location, post, or pic intended solely to let others know they are NOT included is an example of hurtful, negative behavior that we should all work hard to avoid. So please, consider all these things & think before you post...the old saying still rings true...if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all!! (these social media tips apply to your texting and email as well bc everyone screen shots things these days and sends them straight to us!!)
Summer Spinning...
Tuesday night spinning with Alyssa during June is detailed in a previous blog post!
Private Lessons...those who asked about intermediate/advanced private lessons this summer may contact Sydney/532-7258 who is Gracie's sister or Alyssa/394-0333 who is Mrs. Hope's daughter...their rate is $25 cash per hour...both young women have spun for OGHS and the University of Alabama. Those who asked about Beginner level private lessons may contact Kaley/565-9425, Gracie/999-2068, Abby/777-7266, Autumn/907-9692, Katelyn/907-7604, or Bailey/914-7427...their rate is $20 cash per hour. Private lessons are optional and will be held outside at memorial park...payment is due at time of lesson...no prepays or pay later!! Private lessons are no longer provided at folks homes and no small group lessons are available since we have Tuesdays scheduled in June this summer. Guard girls who can't drive MUST have a MOM wait in the car or walk at the park during the lesson. Anyone scheduling private lessons understands a risk of injury is involved AND that their personal health/accident insurance would be used to handle any such injury. College grads/College & high school students will not be held liable or responsible for accidents or injury coming to the lesson, during the lesson, or leaving the lesson.
Last but not least...please make a habit of checking our blog this summer and make sure your REMIND APP is installed with notifications ON!! If you need to know something you should be able to find it on here or get a text about it. The blog & REMIND have replaced notes home. It is a quicker and more effective way for us to get you the info needed. Tigerettes are held accountable for everything posted in either place so please do not delete your Remind messages.
Please note: the Guard blog may contain different info than for the Band...Tigs always follow GUARD instructions. Thanks!!! D & R
:0)
Philippians 4:8...finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. :0)
