Homecoming Week--Game 5!!

So very proud of the job the girls & the band did on Friday and Saturday!!

Special thanks to Wendy Johnson & Marcia Wright for their "bun help" on Saturday afternoon, also a huge thank you to Amy Salter who was willing to make a quick run to Party City for us.  Last but not least we thank the wonderful Dads/Gentlemen...aka "caped crusaders"...who helped get the drum/props ready...their willingness to go the extra mile for the show to run smoothly and safely was a God send.

Looking ahead to Homecoming Week...Vandalism vs. Pranks!!

Please make sure that you know & respect the difference in vandalism and pranks when you are out and about during Homecoming week...

Vandalism is anything done to cause harm to a person, a place, or a thing.  Vandalism leaves damage that requires "fixing".  Vandalism causes people to get in trouble, it damages property, it puts our school activities at risk, and most importantly it puts safety & well being at risk.  Examples:  spray painting, sugaring, salting, glittering, egging, shave creaming, breaking, tearing up, stealing, or use of profane/suggestive language.  Vandalism is wrong!!

Pranks are things done that don't cause damage or harm to a person, place, or thing.  TP in trees/yards, signs draped over fencing or rails, sidewalk chalk are all examples of pranks that don't require anything but a little cleanup...no damage left after.

Parents please know where your babies are and who they are with during homecoming week...don't need anyone in trouble and more importantly don't need anyone injured/harmed in any way.

***********************************************************

Monday = Wear PJs/bring poms for possible parade to elementary = required for Tigerettes!  Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday = optional homecoming dress up for Tigs!

Monday - Wednesday = athletic shoes and moveable clothes 7th period.

Tuesday night = 6-9...ts/shorts/athletic shoes/water or sports drink (big jugs no longer needed since weather changed)...please plan for drop off and pick up to avoid "homecoming car issues" while we practice.  If we could have some band parents hanging out/monitoring the areas around the bandroom and in the parking lot it would sure be a big help.

Thursday afternoon til 5...ts/shorts/athletic shoes/water or sports drink.

Emailed to all on Monday afternoon...Band and Tigerettes will be participating in the community pep rally at memorial park on Thursday night at 8 p.m. What time to report and what to wear will be announced during 7th period all this week. Tig non-drivers will need a parent/guardian with them at the park please.

Friday = Elementary Pep Rally @ 9 a.m.  Afternoon @ TBA.

Tigs will dance at both morning & afternoon pep rallies wearing Pep Rally Uniform and jazz shoes.  Hair with red ribbon.  They will arrive Friday morning in Pep Rally attire and will bring with them Jeans/Tiger For Life T/shoes to wear during classtime.

The OG homecoming trend of checking out for lunch and checking back in has caused various issues of concern the past few years...teachers mad giving zeros, timeframe infractions, problems at local restaurants, hurt feelings amongst girls, extra worry confusion for directors...so checking out and back in WILL NOT be an option for Tigerettes.  As always a doctor/dentist/court excuse would be required for absences/checkins/outs on Friday and they would be verified for authenticity.

Report time for the game Friday night is 5:30.  The band will perform the halftime show PREGAME at 6 p.m.  Please make sure all your family and friends are aware of the PREGAME PERFORMANCE.  Asian Costume entire night, heavy natural makeup, and HAIR IN BUN except for Lauren & Makenzi who will "twig up high".  Homecoming Court activities will take place at halftime...congrats Lauren & Makenzi!!

************************************************************

Band iPad raffle money/stubs/unsold tickets must be in to Mr. Henson by
this Friday, September 28th.

We please need $10 from each Tigerette by Monday or Tuesday of Homecoming week.  The money will be used to help purchase Homecoming/Senior, and End of Season gifts that our group gives/gets.  Girls turn in $$ during 7th period to Donna or Rebecca.  As always, parents will receive a Guard Spending report at the end of the season.

WG forms/fee due by October 1st.  (Those doing WG will be given Tiger For Life T's to sell this week to help us get rid of remaining stock)

Game 4 & Jamboree!

Update Wednesday Morning...girls must have their own hair colored elastics, bobby pins, sock/donut, brush/comb, and strong hairspray on Friday & Saturday.  We have Senior and Junior Moms coming in to help do hair on Saturday afternoon.  Girls should arrive on Saturday with straight hair in a high ponytail or high bun.  Please make sure your daughter has proper hair items with here when she arrives and that you all have practiced enough that she knows whether her hair works best with a sock or a donut.  If layers are short and cause a problem in creating a smooth, neat bun please make sure you have a hair colored ballet bun net to fit over the top.  We emailed a couple pics that might be helpful...and everything needs to be hair color.  Thanks!!

Great job by band & guard last Friday night...so excited about jamboree week ahead!!  Please note a few new things that should help the group experience go more smoothly & then as always the basics and this week's plans for review...

1.  Double laps start today!  Every tidbit of info for the Guard from this point will be listed here on the blog.  If it is listed here each girl is responsible for making it happen.  The opposite is also true, if it is not explained somewhere on the blog girls obviously will not be held responsible...we are not trying to trick anyone...haha.

2.  Captains and their family members are asked not to respond to calls, emails, or texts related to things explained on the blog.  Simply put...it is not fair for their senior experience/personal time to be clouded with questions about things already detailed for everyone on the blog.

3.  We have had home games and an away game so the basic processes for operation should be evident.  The blog will now be the "one & only stop" for all Guard info.  Directors will text when the blog is posted or updated during the week, but other than that they will email or text girls and parents only in event of urgent or emergency situations.

4.  Our practice plans for this week are drastically different because of rain coming in today and tomorrow.  Please see that info below.

Review of basic info...

Blog updates for clarity or correction after the initial post of the week will always show up in red.

No tardies, checkins, or checkouts on Tuesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays without a doctor's excuse.  School, band, guard rules apply.

Guard gloves are needed at every practice/game/performance.

Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays during 7th period girls need athletic type shoes and clothes they can practice in.  Changing clothes is not required these periods due to time constraints.

Tuesday nights, Thursday afterschools girls will need weather appropriate practice clothes and athletic type shoes.

No boyfriends or visitors at rehearsals.

Friday dress/hair/makeup & any pep rally plans will be announced during 7th period during each week...girls must listen in class and are expected to follow verbal instructions provided.

Pep Rally uniform is worn with nude one strap bra and jazz shoes.

Black uniform is worn with regular strap black bra, Leggs Sheer Energy (sheer to the waist) pantyhose in SUNTAN, and jazz shoes.

Costume is worn with black or nude regular strap bra and jazz shoes.

Bra straps in each case should match the color of the bra.  Spanx type garments should be worn as needed to eliminate bounce, jiggle, and rolls.  Bodystocking was provided for warmth and will be worn with costume when needed later in the season.

Jazz shoes should be wiped clean.

Pep/uniform/costume should be spot cleaned only.

Guard bag should always contain poms, black guard jacket, black blanket, and clear ponchos.

Game/Contest day nails must be clear or french manicure.

No jewelry or visible tattoos on game/contest days.

Tigerettes are required to be in the company of at least two other guard members at all times at all rehearsals & games/contests...both home & away...there is safety in numbers.

Before games, rehearsals, and for contests girls are given a specific “report time” . Tigs are not permitted to stay on campus afterschool. All must leave campus and are not permitted to return to campus until 15 minutes prior to report time...no exceptions!! Girls can’t be on campus unsupervised. If you live too far to make it back you will need to find a friend who lives closer to go home with that afternoon.

Home Games...girls are dismissed from the band section at the end of the game.  No early departures.

Away Games/Contests...members may be checked off the Guard bus at the end of the event. No early departures.  Parent/adult is required to go to our bus for  check off. Tigs are not permitted to check off our bus and ride a different band bus home. If you ride home on a band bus it is the same one you came on & you may be expected to help unload the truck. Ride should be waiting when we get back to the school.  Tigs may only be checked off the bus by their parent or by an ADULT designated in writing by their parent. We are unable to verify notes turned in so please know that any student providing a “fake” note would be written up for providing false information. Cell calls & text can't be used to arrange check off.

Cell Phones & Bus seating (explained to girls 7th period prior to the first away game).  Always plan to have a bus partner, seniors are the only ones permitted to sit by themselves when we travel...goal is nobody leftout or alone.  Cell phones are put away most of the time when we travel to avoid lack of focus, lack of group involvement, etc.

Parents are welcomed to observe Tuesday night rehearsals. Please make sure that noise is kept to a minimum since we are in the process of instructing & learning. Also know that observers should sit in the end sections of the stadium only. The middle section is used by directors for instruction during the rehearsal. Students only please in the bandroom or school buildings on practice or event nights.

Game 3 continued...

updated Thursday night, 9/13...

peaks :0)

tigs will have yearbook pics made monday during 7th period.  they will dress just like they did for football program pics in august.  hair and makeup should be done when they get to school monday morning...pep rally outfit and jazz shoes should be brought in a garment bag.  we will only have time for changing and very quick hair and makeup tweaks.  girls who are absent will not have an individual tig pic in the yearbook so PLEASE be here.

hair in bun, with jazz shoes...no make up.  band jamboree is the following saturday, september 22...tickets are on sale in mr. henson's office.  $5 each.

jamboree week is very important to the life and success of the band & guard, please be well rested, healthy, and focused so you can help make good things happen for everyone involved.  we are very excited about the weeks ahead!!

pits :0(

late arrivals to practice/games and forgotten items seem to be increasing so "double laps" will be required beginning monday when those things occur.

rebecca and i will appreciate parent attention to departure times from practice, games, and contests.  we have had to wait as little as 10 mins and as much as 45 for parents to get their girls.  we have had to wait at the end of every rehearsal held since school started.  while we understand an occasional emergency may cause late pickup, habitual late pick up does get taxing on us.  please respect the little off time we share with our families during the fall by picking your daughter up on time.  we thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.

updated Tuesday night, 9/11...

tigs received 20 iPad raffle tickets at the end of school today.  tickets are to be sold for $1 each...please sell as many as you can to help raise funds for the band program...no checks.  $$/ stubs for drawing and any unsold tickets are due back to donna by noon on homecoming day, friday 9-28-12.  all lost or stolen tickets must be paid for by that same date/time.

***

If you forgot to send spring trip payment & forms to school Monday make sure you get those in to Mr. Henson on Tuesday!

***

Winter Guard Interest Meeting is Tuesday @ 5:15!!  All Guard members were given a packet of info last week just in case they had interest in participating in Winter Guard this year.  The required student/parent meeting is Tuesday, September 11 @ 5:15 p.m. in Donna's classroom.

***

No tardies, checkins, or checkouts on Tuesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays! Absences on those days will require a doctor or dental excuse, a funeral excuse, or written documentation of a non-recurring family emergency.

***

Guard rehearsal times are sometimes different than the band's...this is true twice this week.  Please help us with the safety and security of your daughter by making sure that your drop off/pickup plans allign with Guard practice times.  If your daugther must ride to & from rehearsals with band members who are working on a different rehearsal schedule we MUST have and email or letter in writing from the parent stating that fact.

Tuesday = Guard practice 6-9 p.m. in t's/shorts/water
Thursday = Guard afterschool until 5 p.m. in t's/shorts/water

Practice wear update...starting this week we will be in ts/shorts only on Tuesday nights and Thursday afternoons.  7th periods on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays girls can practice in what they wear to school as long as the clothing and shoes allow them to move & practice properly.  Of course they will still need gloves everyday!!  Hope this helps us recover some practice time and helps us not feel so rushed everyday too.

***

No pep rally this Friday!!
Wear black band t & jeans to school Friday morning.
Hair down & makeup on.

Friday afternoon report time is 4:15 p.m.

Before all games and rehearsals...guard members are given a specific “report time”. TIGS are not permitted to stay on campus afterschool. All must leave campus and are not permitted to return to campus until 15 minutes prior to report time. Can’t be on campus unsupervised. If you live too far to make it back you need to find a friend who lives closer to go home with Friday afternoons.

***

We will be wearing the black sequin costume and gloves Friday night.  Black bra with padding & regular straps, spanx as needed, leggs suntan sheer to waist pantyhose, jazz shoes, guard gloves, hair down straight, and full make up. Again, if spanx type garment is needed please make sure it is worn.  No bounce, no rolls is the goal!!

Plan ahead...no colored polish...clear or French manicure only. No jewelry. No visible piercings or tattoos. Rain or Shine Be Prepared!!! Black guard jacket, bug spray, clear poncho, & a stain stick must be in your bag.  Vets please bring black blankets too.

***

Tigerettes are expected to behave in an appropriate manner at all times. In or out of uniform every choice you make has a consequence. Do not jeopardize your reputation, or the reputation of our Guard, by participating in public displays of affection, ignore and do not respond to ugly talk or gestures. All school rules, band rules, guard rules apply at school events/activities.

At games...Tigerettes have assigned seats in the stands and will remain in the correct order the entire time!! No food/drinks/gum/candy in the stands. NO APPLICATION OF MAKEUP OR HAIR PRODUCTS!! Visitors to the band section are expected to speak and move on. Restroom visits must be taken care of prior to game & during third quarter break...this is a privilege...NO PDA...you must be with two other Guard members even at home games. Your 1st priority on break is to go to the restroom and get in line at the concessions stand...be responsible!! Tigerettes report back to the stands one minute prior to Band Director’s called time.

At away games we ask Guard Dads to be up and monitoring concession areas and the travel of our girls to & from the band section.

After the games/contests when we are away...Tigerettes may be checked off the bus at the end of the game/contest.  Parent/adult is required to come to our bus to check the girl off. Tigs are not permitted to check off our bus and ride a different band bus home. If you ride home on a band bus it is the same one you came on & you will be expected to help unload the truck before you leave campus. Those who ride the bus home MUST have a ride waiting on them when we get back to the school. Cell phones will not be used for last minute travel permission this season!!! Tigerettes may only be checked off the bus at the end of away games by their parent OR by an ADULT designated in writing by their parent. We are unable to verify notes turned in so please know that any student providing a “fake” note would be written up for providing false info which is a Class 3 offense. We thank you in advance for your cooperation regarding policy issues like these and ask that you remember they are not intended to cause student/parent problems, but are put in place to help ensure the safety of all participants.

***

Tigerettes are required to be in the company of at least two other Guard members at all times at all rehearsals & games...both home & away...there is safety in numbers...safety from vultures and safety from the rumor mill!!!

No boyfriends at rehearsals!!!

Parents are welcomed to observe Tuesday night rehearsals. Please make sure however that noise is kept to a minimum because we are in the process of instructing & learning. Also know that observers should sit in the end sections of the stadium only. The middle section is used by directors for instruction during the rehearsal. Students only in the bandroom and school buildings on Tuesday, Friday, or Saturday nights.

Please don’t forget that laps are required when you show for rehearsal/events late or unprepared. We thank you in advance for being a responsible member...arriving on time and having all items needed for rehearsal. We also appreciate you “not whining” when your lack of preparation or time management sends you around the field.
