We hope everyone has a great summer!!
PCB August Beach Trip...posted in previous post! Payment is due to Donna at the school by 9 a.m. Fri, May 26th.
Final Grades...report cards should be mailed home the first week of June. You will be contacted that week if we find problems with your academic progress that put you on probation or render you ineligible as a performer.
Plans and prep are underway for great experiences next year. Please make sure you use the summer weeks to have yourself fully prepared...healthy eating habits, exercise, and lots of stretching will help get/keep you in shape. Get outside and acclimate yourself to sun & heat. Good physical health means you look better which means you will be stronger at practice and a more confident performer on the field. We all know that a major part of good physical, mental, & spiritual health is remaining totally free of any/all chemicals that impair your abilities and judgement. Avoiding smoking, alcohol, and drugs are a MUST for you to be all God intended when He created you!! As part of your family life & as part of your guard/social life...24/7 it is important and DOES matter who you are, who you are with, and what you do!!!
Moms please don't forget the need to have your daughter prepared for being self sufficient and independent as part of this group. Girls should learn to do their own hair & makeup this summer...full natural color makeup with red tint lip, sock bun, high pony, front pulled up/back down, and flat ironing on top with hair flat ironed straight in the back, loose curls...no bangs or twigs hanging on face. High School girls should already know these things but...ALL TIGS should be prepared to handle their own money, order at concessions, pack a show bag with all they need, put on things like pantyhose/bodystockings/spanx type garments without assistance because regardless of size the group wears them. Guard Moms the old saying "practice makes perfect" is true and this summer is the perfect time to encourage growth & independence by teaching your girl and practicing all these skills.
Goals we have for the fall...we would like for all 32 Tigerettes to be able to do the minimum of a pencil turn, heel to toe march, point march, saute, chasse, jazz run, drop spins, extensions, cones, flips, single pirouette, attitude turn, flag = double toss, single horizontal toss, & lofty praise toss...all with solid hands/feet, height, rotation. Our 12 member fall weapon line should be working to master all of the above plus the following... splits, double pirouette, illusion, barrel roll, flag = 45 behind the back, one turn, high silk toss, high praise toss, rifle = triples/quads & above with solid hands/feet, height/rotation, saber = blade/hilt double/triples...along with any tricks like one turns, hand stands, cartwheels, etc. Again these are simply goals...the better your individual skills & stronger you are physically the better we are as a group!!
Guard Camp Schedule (see previous post!!)
APPEARANCE...
No visible piercings other than ears. Belly piercings must be bandaided flat under shirt for every rehearsal and performance. Visible tattoos must be covered with skincolored waterproof bandaids at every rehearsal and performance. These guidelines also apply during each & every school day as well!!
Off Season Hair...all agreed to maintain a shoulder length hairstyle. While we feel sure that some of you may need a good trim as the school year ends, do not think for a second that a chin length hairstyle is okay...no matter your grade level we view this as defiance...hair must be shoulder length or longer when prepared for performance with no bangs...very simply stated, it is not what you agreed to do when you tried out last January so just don’t do it. HAIR COLOR CHANGE WILL NOT BE PERMITTED DURING MARCHING OR WINTER SEASON. Use summer as the time to play with color if you must but please do not damage your hair. Before we return to camp please have real hairdressers do highlighting/lowlighting/coloring working off your natural hair color...fyi...the real color of your hair is the color growing out of your head at the root.
Off Season Weight...remember that extra pounds weaken your ability to move & perform with ease. Please eat healthy, avoid sodas, drink water, exercise, and stay in shape...any/all uniform/costume alterations are paid for by parents.
RANDOM...
Cell Phones...all girls need one for communication when we get to camp. REMIND must be installed and notifications for that app must be on at all times. If phones scare you or your daughter is not trustworthy please simply find/install parent security apps to monitor/control your daughter's cell habits.
Social Media...in today’s world, social media plays a huge part in our day-to-day lives. In efforts to keep our social media profiles showing nothing but our best, here are a few tips to keeping your profile clean, powerful and positive this summer. First, avoid using offensive or derogatory language on social media sites such as SnapChat, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and avoid all those anonymous posting apps. (make sure your automatic retweets are not set for any accounts that post sensitive items) Lots of people have access to these sites and you want to be sure to present the best YOU possible. Next, keep personal arguments off social media sites and remember to keep your photos respectable. Social media sites are no place for mean words or for photos that suggest anything other than a positive image. One last online behavior to avoid is the most current trend in social media--posting a location, status, or photo that "appears positive" but in reality is only being put out there to jab at someone or hurt their feelings...a location, post, or pic intended solely to let others know they are NOT included is an example of hurtful, negative behavior that we should all work hard to avoid. So please, consider all these things & think before you post...the old saying still rings true...if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all!! (these social media tips apply to your texting and email as well bc everyone screen shots things these days and sends them straight to us!!)
Summer Spinning...
Tuesday night spinning with Alyssa during June is detailed in a previous blog post!
Private Lessons...those who asked about intermediate/advanced private lessons this summer may contact Sydney/532-7258 who is Gracie's sister or Alyssa/394-0333 who is Mrs. Hope's daughter...their rate is $25 cash per hour...both young women have spun for OGHS and the University of Alabama. Those who asked about Beginner level private lessons may contact Kaley/565-9425, Gracie/999-2068, Abby/777-7266, Autumn/907-9692, Katelyn/907-7604, or Bailey/914-7427...their rate is $20 cash per hour. Private lessons are optional and will be held outside at memorial park...payment is due at time of lesson...no prepays or pay later!! Private lessons are no longer provided at folks homes and no small group lessons are available since we have Tuesdays scheduled in June this summer. Guard girls who can't drive MUST have a MOM wait in the car or walk at the park during the lesson. Anyone scheduling private lessons understands a risk of injury is involved AND that their personal health/accident insurance would be used to handle any such injury. College grads/College & high school students will not be held liable or responsible for accidents or injury coming to the lesson, during the lesson, or leaving the lesson.
Last but not least...please make a habit of checking our blog this summer and make sure your REMIND APP is installed with notifications ON!! If you need to know something you should be able to find it on here or get a text about it. The blog & REMIND have replaced notes home. It is a quicker and more effective way for us to get you the info needed. Tigerettes are held accountable for everything posted in either place so please do not delete your Remind messages.
Please note: the Guard blog may contain different info than for the Band...Tigs always follow GUARD instructions. Thanks!!! D & R
:0)
Philippians 4:8...finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. :0)
