GREAT start last Friday night!!
Thanks to all who test drove on Saturday!!
Please don't forget to bring your case of water to the guard room on Tuesday night.
Pizza Fundraiser money (CASH ONLY) due on or before September 6th.
Tuesday night in practice blacks...black leotard and shorts...too hot for leggings. A & B Guard members will need their long black skirts for rehearsal as well.
Thursday afterschool til 4 in shorts and ts.
WG Notarized forms due on or before September 1!!
Make sure you stock clear ponchos this week!!
No Pep Rally Friday.
Friday's dress will be announced during 4th block this week.
Guard report time this Friday night is TBA. Green costume..arrive ready!!
Costume and Uniform should only be spot cleaned & really needs to be hung up to dry out after each use. Balling it up in your bag after the game is a sure way to get very stinky fast...lol...same is true for guard gloves...lol.
All procedures/rules apply & are the same as previously posted.
And last but not least...a public service announcement...
Please make sure social sites like facebook and twitter stay clean. Make sure your walls and photos are set to PRIVATE so only you & your friends can see them. Pics, comments, etc. on your page should always represent you & our group well. Check your pages often and make sure to delete any questionable content should it pop up. Think before you post...LOTS of folks read what you say/post on public forums, and that can get you (and us) into very sticky situations. Remember and apply Thumper's rule to all posts/pics..."if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." In 2011 Thumper would prob add..."if you can't post or load something nice online, then don't post or load any content at all."
If you are a parent and your daughter has a smart phone/laptop/ipad/ipod type device we strongly suggest that you have one too...if they have a fb or twitter you should at least consider having them too and also access to their accounts. Kids under the age of 18 they are children posting/playing in what can easily become a very adult online world. Sadly, we don't live in the past where girls used a diary or journal to vent their feelings, they don't use a format that only they or you see & read. Today the things they write and pictures they post (even set to private) are seen and circulate thru the whole community...not just because it's Oak Grove and people talk, but simply because the kids put it out there for the all to see and it is the social media world we live in today.

Tigerettes may only be checked off the bus at the end of away games by their parent or by an ADULT designated in writing by their parent. We are unable to verify notes turned in so please know that any student providing a “fake” note would be written up for providing false info. Dress Code, Required Booster Meeting, & Fall Jamboree!!
Dress Code
Teachers are expected to check students through out the day for dress/skirt length, sheer tops/bottoms, low necklines, and proper straps on tops. The appearance of ANY cleavage at all will result in office visit. Dress/skirts that are even close to questionable will result in office visit. Tops must have straps 1 inch or wider. Sheer shirts/pants MUST have layer to prevent see-thru.
The ONLY piercings permitted are female ears!! Teachers have been instructed to take up any and all pierced jewelry and spacers...nose rings, tongue rings, lip rings, brow rings, male earrings, spacers, etc. ARE NOT PERMITTED AT SCHOOL OR SCHOOL EVENTS. Those items will be placed in a baggy labeled with the student's name and placed in the office safe UNTIL JUNE 1, 2012 when a parent can pick them up!!!!!
Students who refuse to hand over jewelry/spacers will be referred to the office for DEFIANCE which is a CLASS TWO OFFENSE. No more covering it up or just taking it out...if a teacher sees it, it is gone until JUNE!!! No visible tattoos!!
As you can see the absolute best thing to do is wear clothes that don't cause you problems, let piercings grow up until next summer, and have lots of flesh tone bandaids to cover tattoos until next June. As a student at OGHS you are expected to follow the dress code, as a Tigerette and a representative of what our Guard looks like on campus and at school events YOU ARE REQUIRED TO FOLLOW DRESS CODE GUIDELINES.
Booster Meeting details are listed below...
As was detailed in pre-tryout materials...all parents are required to work home concessions at OGHS as part of their financial obligation to the band. Each child in band normally has two assigned parent work concession games each fall. For example...one parent can work two games OR two parents can work one game to complete their financial obligation. And yes, if you have more than one child in the marching program you have to do the same work for each child.
A payout has been offered in the past for parents who could not or would not work concessions. The payout has been $25 per game (and yes per child per assigned game) if the parent paid out one week prior to the scheduled game. The no-show or "last min during the week of" cancellation fee was $50. We are not sure of the exact amount but you can expect an increase in those fees this fall....probably in the range of $50 pre-pay out one week prior and $100 no-show or week of cancellation.
The Boosters will clarify the new payout amount at the meeting, and yes...obviously last minute cancellations due to illness can be re-scheduled to avoid the fee when the parent submits a doctor's excuse to verify their illness and inability to work as scheduled to the Concessions Manager(s).
We require that at least one parent for every Guard Girl and the GUARD GIRL HERSELF attend the meeting to get their concession work certification for a couple reasons...
1. In the event the band runs other fundraisers during the year that involve the production of food items we must be prepared to do our part.
2. Guard girls who choose to do winter guard and their parents will be working Dipping Dot stands at Bryant Denney at UA home games to raise money for the winter season.
Mandatory Band Booster Meeting
Time Monday, August 15 · 7:00pm - 10:00pm
Location OGHS Band Room / Auditorium
Health Department will be there for Concession Purposes....Parent Tshirt order will be taken....Information for the entire year will be given. This meeting is mandatory. Be there!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Parents for the following students are scheduled to work in the concession stand on 8/19/11...information about prepaying out and/or no show fees...along with the remainder of the fall concession schedule will be available at the booster meeting mentioned above.

Pic Request, Hair, & Thursday Practice Update!!
Pic Request...If any of you have a great shot of the "cross scene" from last year's fall show please post/re-post/share it today on facebook for us!!
Hair Issues...
We have a handful of girls who are not following our requested guideline for natural color hair. The natural hair color guideline was part of Tigerette info that was signed for and notarized prior to tryouts in January and was repeated here on the blog last April. Tigs and Parents we need your help to correct this issue.
A few girls have hair that has gotten a little too light due to time in the sun this summer...those girls can get a good conditioner or toner and be good to go. We do however have another 2-3 girls who have chosen to ignore the guideline and chemically change their natural hair color to one that is either way too dark or way too white. Sadly we even had changed hair color after we started camp which is also another thing we asked not to happen. Blonds should be blond, reds red, browns brown, and blacks black...that is all we expect.
The bottom line is it is simply not fair to the 28+ girls who are doing exactly what is expected not to address the obvious disregard for the guideline, so please understand that from this point on any girl with hair issues will not perform at events with the group until those issues are corrected. The girl(s) will either follow directions and look like we need the Guard to look or they will be suspended from performance events until they comply as they agreed to do prior to tryouts.
Please take a close look at the root color of your (your daughter's) hair as well as eyebrow color and make sure that the base hair color is one that matches. A good idea of your/her natural color is also taking a look at pics of the girls in 6th and 7th grade before most of them begin playing with color. Highlights and lowlights are not a problem as long as they are small strands that blend with the natural color...normally no more than one shade lighter or darker works very well on everyone.
The Tigerettes will dress and perform in the stands with the band on Friday, August 19th. Hair issues must be corrected prior to that date. We have 32 gorgeous girls and we simply want them to stay that way!!
Guard Practice on Thursday, August 11th...
Guard practice that was scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. has now been changed to 6 to 8 p.m. This is a time change for the Guard only and DOES NOT apply to band members. Thanks!!
