May 1st = Guard Beach Trip money due to Rebecca! (optional) and
Band Spring Concert (required) see Band Director for details.
May 7-11 = Guard Spring Clinic (required)
May 10th = Final $150 Guard Payment due to Donna!!
May 12th = Band Banquet (required for Tigs 6-12)
Band Banquet...
The Band Banquet on May 12th is a required event for all Tigerettes 6-12. $15 tickets will be on sale in the bandroom next week. Church or party dresses are appropriate to wear. The event will be held at Oak Grove 1st Baptist Church Family Life Center for Band Members, Tigerettes, & Parents only...no siblings/no friends. Time TBA. We will recognize Seniors, review accomplishments for the year, announce leadership for next year, and of course announce our show plan for Fall 2012!!
Guard Spring Clinic...
Tigerettes Grades 6-11 will participate in a Guard Clinic during their regularly scheduled band class every day during the week of May 7-11. The clinic is required and girls MUST have a doctor's excuse to miss any band class scheduled that week.
Girls will need to be prepared daily to change quickly into a t-shirt and shorts in the guard room. Athletic shoes (no dance shoes, no converse, no vans) are required for the class. Girls must bring a bottle of water with them each day, and pending weather issues may need sunglasses and sunscreen for outside.
Tigs who forget practice clothes, shoes, etc. will not participate and their failure to participate will be considered an unexcused absence. Remember, unexcused absences = suspension from performance...one performance per unexcused absence.
Former OG Guard Captains, Ashley Vanderburg Watts/JSU Ballerina
& Dana Hampton/UA Guard/Alta Marea/Amor, will instruct girls in two areas...dance and flag. We will supply a properly weighted flag that the girls will take home at the end of clinic for summer practice. Everything will be taught in routine form to specific songs so the girls can easily work on things all summer long. Dana will also work with girls grades 8-11 who are interested in trying out for a weapons spot in the fall...those interested will need to bring their own rifle & saber to clinic.

To: Guard Moms & Dads
Re: Chicago
We just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to our wonderful guard parents... we know that all we are and all we are able to do is because of YOU!!! We are blessed beyond measure to have your physical, mental, emotional, financial, & spiritual support. We know how hard you work to make your daughter's high school adventures possible and we know we (and they) don't stop to say thank you nearly enough...so thank you!! Whether you paid and stayed home or paid and traveled with us...YOU ARE APPRECIATED!!
Your effort to meet the "needs" of your daughter are evidenced to the world daily through her attitudes, efforts, & behaviors...the extra effort you put forth to make her "wants" like "Guard" and "a trip to Chicago" happen are not the norm for most children in today's world. Your daughters are blessed beyond measure to have parents who care and hence our Guard is blessed as well!!
We thank you, thank you, thank you for all you do!!!! Donna & Rebecca :0)
Proverbs 22:6...
Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.

Congrats Winter Guard, April Band Fundraiser, Uniform Fitting, and Guard Beach Trip Info!!

Winter Guard 2012!!
Congrats to our Winter Guard for completing OG's 15th year as a member of the Southeastern Color Guard Circuit and for being a WGI Nashville Regional Finalist. The girls competed during the season in the highest & hardest class of competition in our winter program's history...finishing 9th. Judges were impressed with OG's first attempt at this level of competition and commented about how much potential they see for the future. It was a great year of growth for some very hard working young ladies and we as always are soooooooo proud of what they do to help the OG Guard program continue to grow in ability & expectations. We see great things ahead and expect to have enough talented girls involved to put two competing guards on the floor in 2013...not bad at all for one of the smallest high schools involved in the activity!!
You can catch the final run of the WG's 2012 program "Music Made Me" at the spring concert later this month...hope you will take time to check it out!!
April Fundraiser!!
OGHS Band Boosters are sponsoring a "10 for $10" fundraiser in April. Band families on every grade level 6-12 are asked to submit 10 names/addresses of family, friends, or companies that boosters can mail a letter to asking for a monetary donation.
Tigerette families will turn in their names/addresses along with their 3rd $150 Tig payment to Donna by next Tuesday, April 10th. Please make sure the addresses are typed and/or printed in such a manner that your list of 10 can easily be cut into a mailing label and taped on an envelope for ease of labeling/mailing.
Our hope is that all (or at least half) of the 10 names each family submits will get a response, but as always if you prefer not to participate in this fundraiser you may simply "pay out the estimated profit" by sending a $50 donation check (per family) made out to "OGHS Band" by the April 10th deadline set for Tigerettes.
Uniform Fitting!!
Girls will be fitted for uniforms one day this week during their band class. Donna and Rebecca will double check measurements and girls will try on mock garment samples to help us find the best size & fit possible for next fall.
Guard Beach Trip 2012--optional!!
Guard members and their Moms are invited to participate in our annual Guard Beach Trip scheduled for Thursday - Sunday, Aug 2-5th.
Cost is $100 per person...that amount covers housing and some meals. Girls who travel without a parent pay an extra $25 gas fee at trip time. We carpool and Guard Moms split the cost of gas used in the cars.
If interested please send full payment via CASH ONLY to Rebecca Hope to reserve your spot(s). No checks will be accepted. Deadline to sign up is May 1st. We have room for all Guard girls and our parent spots will be filled on a first paid basis.
If we have enough interest we will move forward with plans, and if we do not your cash WILL be returned to you. Please note...once signed up and the trip is put in motion no refunds will be issued regardless of reason.
And last but not least...
1. Grades across the board were a tad lower than the Tigerette norm for 3rd nine weeks. The weather has us hitting our "spring fever" early this year. Please don't let poor focus in class, poor attendance, or too many check ins/outs hurt academic progress. Pay attention, know what teachers expect & make it happen. If you have to be absent make sure you turn in a valid excuse and get the make up work done on time.
2. Please review the spring dates posted and make them part of your family calendar.
