End of Fall Season Notes 2020
So proud of every girl in the program and so thankful for Guard parents who supported their daughter every step of the way. We appreciate the focused attention to detail and willingness to learn, change, and go with every ebb and flow of this very different hopefully once in a lifetime season.
Here is important info for the last two weeks of fall season...
All Tig rules, regulations, policies and procedures apply now and during the remainder of the school year. Those already on probation need to be very mindful from now until the end of May 2021 that a visit to ISS or a suspension...for any reason...will remove you from the squad.
Tigerette Budget...Guard financial sheet for Fall 2020 will publish November 2nd.
Band Fees...all took care of this...Thank You!!
Home Concessions...parents should have worked or prepaid buyout or will owe no show fee to clear for January tryouts.
Off Season Fundraising...Concert Band girls are required to continue to participate in band fundraisers. WG girls are required to fundraise for WG.
The Summit Christmas Parade is TBA...REQUIRED EVENT. Tigs will need a WHITE Turtleneck, WHITE MATTE leggings, WHITE fold down socks, and WHITE converse or ked-like shoes. We will practcie a couple days during school that week. Candy Cane Costumes will be issued the day of the event. Timeline TBD.
Band/Guard Christmas Party TBA...it is required!! Cute Christmas Casual dress. Students will bring an assigned dish to share...there will be dancing and karaoke for those interested. It is always a blast!! More details closer to event.
Tigerette Tryout sign up for next year will also happen in December. A new physical form will be required for tryouts. No late forms will be accepted. Girls must have everything done, ready, and turned in on time AND have no outstanding band, guard or school debt or they will not be permitted to participate...this includes returning vets!! Sign up and more tryout info will be given out first week of December. Our Captains/Seniors will be needed daily afterschool that week to assist with teaching tryout material.
Concert Band and Winter Guard will begin fully November 2nd. Guard girls will receive a grade 1st 9 weeks which reflects their work as a Tigerette on the field. Looking ahead their work ethic in band class along with unexcused absences or checkouts from band class will impact 2nd 9 weeks band grade. REMOTE STUDENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO ATTEND CONCERT BAND CLASS AND WINTER GUARD IN PERSON EVERYDAY DURING 5TH PERIOD. The only “excused” absence from class are ones labeled “P”...given when the student produces a doctor’s excuse or when the student is given a “Principal excused absence” for a college day or something similar. Band/WG is your scheduled class and it is a graded subject. Do not show up late with a pass from other teachers, and do not ask to leave the band class to do work for other classes you have scheduled. Band is not an off period or your study hall. Please also remember that our BDs also have input as to those chosen for leadership roles in coming years....a girl who is “stellar” on the field but a “stinker” the remainder of the time should not expect selection for leadership.
Holiday Concert, District Concert, Spring Concert...all TBA...these are required events!! Employers can’t require a student to miss a required school event or a rehearsal for an event. If written verification for employer is needed see one of us immediately. It is STUDENT'S responsibility to inform the employer about school required events in a timely manner...failure to do so will not excuse your absence. Please make sure that you listen to Directors for information that will be announced about these events.
Schedule Changes...please understand that any student requesting a schedule change out of band for 2nd semester automatically removes themselves as a member of the band program and from their position as a Tigerette and ends their participation in any/all band/guard events ends at that time. No schedule changes are permitted mid-semester. Written request from Parent for 2nd semester schedule change is due in November and goes to the Guidance office. If you are not following procedure/rules, if you tell others you don’t like guard, or if you are posting negative comments/pics/snaps on social media...you obviously might want to consider leaving at semester. We want every girl to be happy and the group honestly only need girls involved who enjoy what they are doing and really want to be there!!
Off Season Grades...Tigs must maintain an overall 70% average each grading period. Parents will be notified in writing if there is a problem with grades. Members on “Grade Probation” will be dismissed from the squad if they do not improve/maintain an overall 70%. First grade check will be October 30th, then every nine weeks that follow.
Off Season Conduct...Tigs are still expected to maintain Satisfactory conduct. Stay out of the office!! Follow the dress code, do not be tardy, do not skip class, do not cheat, do not lie, be respectful, keep your lips (and everything else) to yourself, be a kind, sweet, cooperative young lady at school, in your social life, and at home!!! If school, social, and home problems are impacting your Guard involvement those issues are logged and you must understand fully that those are the type issues that can and do impact leadership decisions down the road.
Off Season Hair...Tigs agreed to maintain a shoulder length hairstyle. While we feel sure that some of you may need a good trim as the season ends, do not think for a second that a chin or shoulder touching length hairstyle, or drastic color change is okay...we view this as defiance. Very simply stated, it is not what you agreed to do when you tried out last year so don’t do it!!! COLOR = NATURAL!!! Please have hairdressers do any/highlighting/lowlighting/coloring by working off your natural hair color...the real color of your hair is the one growing at the roots. Again...know that continual hair issues can impact leadership decisions down the road.
Off Season Weight...extra pounds weaken your ability to move and perform with ease. PLEASE eat healthy, drink water and work out to get in shape...tryouts for next year are in about 12 weeks.
Off Season Skills...please take an honest look at skills in all areas and work to improve in the off season. Flags, weapons, and body!! Girls are not guaranteed a spot on next year’s squad.
Tigs and Winter or Spring Sport Participation
Coaches are recruiting girls because of their strong work ethic. We have NO PROBLEM with Tigs being involved and participating in other school extracurricular activities as long as all involved (student, parent, coaches) understand the following...
1. Tigerette and Band commitments including all in school/out of school practice and all events scheduled for the groups must be the #1 priority. (Winter Guard members are not permitted to participate in other sports during NOV DEC JAN FEB MARCH)
2. Tigs sharing time is not an option when a conflict arrises. Tigs must honor the first commitment they made and that was Band/Guard last January when they tried out and made Tigerette/Fall Guard.
3. All Tigerettes must and will be in their assigned band class all year long. Tigs will not be excused from assigned band class for anything other than team travel to an off campus game, meet, or match at the time designated by coach in faculty email. They may not miss band class to practice another sport.
Please note...
Tigerettes will be involved in tryouts for just over a week in January and that Tigerette Tryout Clinic attendance is now required by Jefcoed so there is NOT an option to "choose or share" time that week.
End of Season Gifting!!
We will celebrate the end of fall season on Friday afternoon October 30th!!! 3 p.m. to game time!!
Each of the 31 girls will need to bring their own JUMBO shopping bag and ALL are expected to bring something gifty to put in everyone's bags. Doesn't have to be a certain price or a certain type thing, just needs to be girly and fun!! Let your wallet be the guide on what you purchase/make and be sure you send at least 31 of whatever gift you choose. Please remember we have 8 Seniors who deserve extra special treatment!!
Snack assignments by grade levels...
Seniors = just be there!
Juniors and Freshmen = veggie/cheese/fruit snacks
Sophomores grade = sweet snacks
7th grade = salty snacks
Rebecca and I will furnish drinks and trash bags. Items MUST be individually packaged, bagged, or wrapped STORE BOUGHT ITEMS...per covid we can't and won't share homemade goods of any kind.
Each girl will share her gift with others, we will enjoy food items together and our Seniors and a few others will share their final thoughts on the season.
hint, hint...framed group pictures and season photos are nice but girls already have tons via social media.

August 2020
Great 1st day!!
Tigerettes/Fall Guard Members MUST leave campus promptly at their dismissal time...girls must have someone ready to pickup or a pre-arranged ride home ready to leave campus at dismissal time everyday. Girls are not permitted to be on campus without supervision and thus are not permitted to "hang out" during band, percussion rehearsals or other school group practices. They are only to be on campus at assigned times when directors are present!!
Any absence from required activities must have a verifiable doctor excuse, a verifiable court date, or a verifiable death in immediate family. A family emergency is defined as a situation which requires the specific attention of said Guard member and does not occur on a regular basis.
A new physical form and/or the attending physician's written "clearance" is required for attendance/participation in Tigerette/Fall Guard activities following any illness or hospitalization. Casts, wraps, and supports worn must be accompanied by written instructions from the student's doctor.
Work is not an excused absence...if you need a letter documenting your rehearsal schedule for your employer please let us know. Vacations and other travel should have been completed before July 27th OR should be planned to avoid missing practices/events.
If you are on time...you are late!! Arrive 5 or 10 mins before call time to avoid panic. (Guard Captain is expected 15 minutes before call time and 10 minutes after.) Plan ahead so you don't have to run laps...tardy = 1 lap per minute late...double laps if Captain. We caution Guard members and Parents who drive to/from band to make sure that you maintain a timeline that does not put you at risk for getting a speeding ticket and/or something worse. If you are old enough to drive yourself and others to camp you are old enough to get up and leave the house in plenty of time!!! Guard members are not permitted to leave campus during camp. Students may not be in and out of cars during the day. Make sure you have what you need when you come inside each day. Forgotten items = more laps to run!!
Here is what you bring to camp with you everyday...Mask, Sunscreen or Bug spray, Sunglasses, Water Jug, Guard gloves, Band-aids (if feet & hands tend to blister), Fem items!!
Here is what you should wear... NO makeup, hair in ponytail, Soffe or Nike type shorts*, Tshirt** Athletic shoes(no converse, keds, or vans), low cut socks *shorts will not be rolled so high that we see cheekage! **due to temp and amount of time we practice we allow tank tops and/or cami style summer tops as long as BRA STRAPS ARE NUDE OR MATCH COLOR. During school you will have to wear a tshirt with your shorts during 5th block every day.
All fall items...uniforms, costumes, pep wear, shoes, bags, etc. have been distributed. This is always VERY exciting...Girls tried on every item and got everyone the best fit possible. please locate your tryout t and put it with your new stuff!! You must keep everything looking new and fresh so NO FALL ITEM are to be worn or carried until the assigned time.
NO PICTURES WEARING OR SHOWING ANY FALL ITEM IS PERMITTED ON SOCIAL MEDIA UNTIL THE DIRECTORS GIVE THE OK!!
Parent must get Director approval on any/every alteration made to any item. Alterations are paid for by the parent.
Note as well...NOBODY should be wearing Guard items...new items or old items the same rule...no friends and no cute boys/boyfriends wearing Tig stuff.
BOYS!!! Boyfriends are not permitted at rehearsals. Guard girls who date boys in the band must follow the same rule...you will not be a couple at rehearsals. Please explain this to your boyfriends...if you can't WE WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TOO!!
APPEARANCE...
If you have put on a few pounds over the summer please use these remaining days to start to trim it off. Extra pounds inhibit your ability to move with ease. Cut out sodas, drink lots of water, make healthy food choices and exercise...you will be surprised how successful you will be in getting those pounds to disappear!!
No visible piercings other than ears. Belly piercings must be bandaided flat under shirt for every rehearsal and performance. Visible tattoos must be covered with skincolored waterproof bandaids at every rehearsal and performance. These guidelines also apply during each and every school day as well!
Looking Ahead...
Plans each week will post here by 1 p.m. each Tuesday during the school year for review. REMIND will be used as well with updates and reminders. Please do not delete remind texts sent your way...keep them so you have them to refer back to as needed. Tigs responsible for ALL content posted or texted. Please read and re-read before you email one of us. Please remember as well that texting us should happen only in urgent situations. We expect and greatly appreciate your respect of our off time when we are at home with our families.
Lastly please remember that OGHS Tigerettes are expected to set the standard for good behavior, good grades, and a good work ethic. 24/7...at school, at home, in your social lives and on social media we always expect the best from you!! This requires a mind, body, and spirit that is free from anything or anybody that alters your thinking and/or your behavior in a negative way. Review the Tigerette Trait list you received the first day you made the team...if you make a solid effort to make sure you try to display those traits everyday it will make a huge difference in your personal success and as well the success of our group as a whole.
We are sooooooo excited about fall and hope you are too!! Different does not mean bad!!

Summer 2020
Wow...what a spring!! Here are things you all need to know heading into summer...
All Tigerette spring payments were made and we have everything ordered. We will have it all ready to give out to our girls on the first day of summer camp. Thank you Parents!!
New York Trip Spring 2021--new Tig families who have not made arrangements to purchase travel vouchers from recently graduated Seniors need to check their NY TRIP REMIND for a list of the few remaining vouchers available, contact those parents and arrange purchase ASAP. Thanks to the four new families who have already taken care of this as expected!!
Virtual Band Banquet---we hope you enjoyed the excitement of our modified banquet. We are super excited about THE ANCHOR HOLDS and look forward to watching this show come to life. Props are being built this summer to help us achieve this goal...Moms & Dads please watch REMIND messages and be ready to lend a hand if/when one is needed to get everything built.
June Clinic Days--required!! Small group schedule was sent via REMIND. Tigs need to arrive wearing t-shirt and shorts. Athletic shoes (no dance shoes, no converse, no vans) are required for the clinic day. Girls must bring their flag (weapons) a bottle of water with them each day, and pending weather issues may need sunglasses and sunscreen for outside. Tigs who forget items will not participate and their failure to participate will be considered an unexcused absence. Remember, unexcused absences = suspension from performance...1 performance per U-absence. Drop off & pickup behind the bandroom at the designated times sent via REMIND. Tigs & Staff are the only ones permitted on campus!!
$100 Band Fee will be due from to OGHS at the time of school registration...attending school registration and making full payment is REQUIRED!!
Summer GUARD Camp---REQUIRED! We start July 27th...dates & times have already been sent via REMIND. Summer classes, summer jobs, and summer vacations are NOT excused absences...complete all family vacations before July 27th!!
Final Grades...report cards should be mailed home the first week of June. You will be contacted that week if we find problems with your academic progress or behavior. Thanks to Tigs who rocked the classroom with all As...your efforts do not go unnoticed!!
Plans and prep are underway for great experiences next year. Please make sure you use the summer weeks to have yourself fully prepared...healthy eating habits, exercise, and lots of stretching will help get/keep you in shape. Get outside and acclimate yourself to sun & heat. Good physical health means you look better which means you will be stronger at practice and a more confident performer on the field. We all know that a major part of good physical, mental, & spiritual health is remaining totally free of any/all chemicals that impair your abilities and judgement. Avoiding smoking, alcohol, and drugs are a MUST for you to be all God intended when He created you!! As part of your family life & as part of your guard/social life...24/7 it is important and DOES matter who you are, who you are with, and what you do!!!
Moms please understand our need to have your daughter prepared for being self sufficient and independent as part of this group. Girls should learn to do their own hair & makeup...full natural color makeup with red tint lip, sock bun, high pony, front pulled up/back down, and flat ironing on top with hair flat ironed straight in the back, loose curls...no bangs or twigs hanging on face. ALL TIGS should be prepared to handle their own money, order at concessions, pack a show bag with all they need, put on things like pantyhose/bodystockings/spanx type garments without assistance because regardless of size our whole group wears them. Guard Moms the old saying "practice makes perfect" is true and this summer is the perfect time to encourage growth & independence by teaching your girl "how to" and have her practicing all these skills.
Goals we have for the fall...we would like for all 31 Tigerettes to be able to do the minimum of a pencil turn, heel to toe march, point march, saute, chasse, jazz run, drop spins, extensions, cones, flips, single pirouette, attitude turn, flag = double toss, single horizontal toss, & lofty praise toss...all with solid hands/feet, height, rotation. Our fall weapon line should be working to master all of the above plus the following... splits, double pirouette, illusion, barrel roll, flag = 45 behind the back, one turn, high silk toss, high praise toss, rifle = triples/quads & above with solid hands/feet, height/rotation, saber = blade/hilt double/triples...along with any tricks like one turns, hand stands, cartwheels, etc. Again these are simply goals...the better your individual skills & stronger you are physically the better we are as a group! Alyssa will be working on all these skills plus teaching the opener routine during June Clinic Days.
APPEARANCE...
No visible piercings other than ears. Belly piercings must be band-aided flat under shirt for every rehearsal and performance. Visible tattoos must be covered with skincolored waterproof bandaids at every rehearsal and performance. These guidelines also apply during each & every school day as well!!
Off Season Hair---all agreed to maintain a shoulder length hairstyle. While we feel sure that some of you may need a good trim as the school year ends, do not think for a second that a chin length hairstyle is okay...no matter your grade level we view this as defiance...hair must be shoulder length or longer when prepared for performance with no bangs...very simply stated, it is not what you agreed to do when you tried out last January so just don’t do it. HAIR COLOR CHANGE WILL NOT BE PERMITTED DURING MARCHING OR WINTER SEASON. Use summer as the time to play with color trends if you must, but please do not damage your hair. Before we return to camp on July 27 please have your hairdresser do any highlighting/lowlighting and your return to your natural hair color...fyi...the real color of your hair is the color growing out of your head at the root.
Off Season Weight---remember extra pounds weaken your ability to move & perform with ease. Fall uniforms & costumes are form fitting. Please eat healthy, no sodas, drink water, exercise, and stay in shape...any/all uniform/costume alterations required are paid for by parents.
RANDOM...
Cell Phones...all girls need one for communication when we get to camp July 27. REMIND must be installed and notifications for that app must be on at all times. If phones scare you or your daughter is not trustworthy please simply find/install parent security apps to monitor/control your daughter's cell habits.
Social Media...in today’s world, social media plays a huge part in our day-to-day lives. In efforts to keep our social media profiles showing nothing but our best, here are a few tips to keeping your profile clean, powerful and positive this summer. First, avoid using crude, offensive or derogatory language on social media sites such as Tik Tok, SnapChat, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and avoid ALL anonymous posting apps. (make sure automatic posts or auto retweets are off) Lots of people have access to social media and you want to be sure to present the best YOU possible. Next, keep personal arguments off social media sites and remember to keep your photos respectable. Social media sites are no place for mean words or for photos that suggest anything other than a positive image. One last online behavior to avoid is the "mean teen" trend in social media--posting a location, status, or photo that "appears positive" but in reality is only being put out there to jab at someone or hurt their feelings...a location, post, or pic intended solely to let others know they are NOT included is an example of hurtful, negative behavior that we should all work hard to avoid. So please, consider all these things & think before you post...the old saying still rings true...if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all!! (these social media tips apply to your texting and email as well bc everyone screen shots things these days and sends them straight to us!! And yes parents...even your accounts represent our program...we appreciate your cooperation as well)
Last but not least...please make a habit of checking our blog this summer and make sure your REMIND APP is installed with NOTIFICATIONS ON!! If you need to know something you should be able to find it on here or get a text about it. This blog & REMIND have replaced notes home. It is a quicker and more effective way for us to get you the info needed. Tigerettes are held accountable for everything posted in either place so please do not delete your Remind messages.
Please note: the Guard blog may contain different info/plans than the Band's...Tigs always follow GUARD instructions!!
Thanks!!! D & R :0)
Philippians 4:8...finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Got Questions??
99.5% of questions can be asked by the Tigerette...not the Parent...as part of a HS Guard program that is what we expect!!
