*costume handwashed in COLD water. fill the sink or tub with cold water, put in a few drops of mild detergent, swish to "suds" the water, submerge the costume & swish for 3-5 mins. Drain the tub, rinse costume with cold water, roll costume in towel remove excess water...hang dry. (jazz shoes smell horrid...please purchase men's extra strength odor eaters this week and put them in the shoes asap)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why go??????????????????

Last but not least...have you ever entered a competition you knew you may not win? Yes mams/sirs...we sure have and looking back at all the times we didn’t win made more of a difference in our group life than all the times we entered a competition knowing we had an advantage and would win. JSU is that competition for us this year!! Here are some reasons we should always want to face high quality competitors...

1. You/we will push your perceived limits farther then you ever thought you could. Whether it is the external pressure of the competition or the energy on the field, you will always push harder than you think you can when people are watching and you know your score counts.

2. Competition is a good way to take a snapshot of where you are right now. It gives you a concrete result that you can test against at any point in the future. Competition is testing, practicing, and retesting. No matter the type of competition, it allows you to say “this is where I am with this particular thing right now.” It allows you to see where you are and you see where you want to be!!

3. It’s a whole lot of fun! The camaraderie that forms with a group of people who are competing is even deeper than with a group of people who just happen to be doing the same thing side-by-side. The best times you’ll ever have is the bus ride home or going out to eat together to celebrate the end of a competition. There is a chemical release in your brain of endorphins (your feel-good, happy hormone) after the completion of a hard competition, and it’s even more intense when you are surrounded by the smiling faces of people who did it with you or cheered you on. There is no better feeling.

4. The joy is in the competition, not the practice. Band/Guard practice is done in order to perform the show well at games and contests. No one is ok with just going to practice everyday. If all you ever do is practice OR if all you do is only go where you know you will win...then you can’t say you are really a competitor of that sport; you are merely a fan. At some point you have to be willing to throw your hat in the ring...and to grow/learn that ring must be filled with tough competitors.

Hebrews 12:1 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”

Philippians 4:13 “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

Psalm 37:23-24 “The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.”

Bigs will assist Middles and Littles...there will be no need for parents pop ins...we will see you all at Northridge HS at 5:30 for the band exhibition!! Admission/parking fee may or may not be required...sorry but we won't know until we arrive.

Here is the school address for your gps...

Northridge HS
2901 Northridge Road
Tuscaloosa, Alabama 35406

Parents...front side seating is limited...it would be a good idea for you to be in the stadium by 5:30 to have a chance to sit in the middle for best viewing. Please remember that while we/you may not know anyone personally in the stadium...they know our Band and they know our Girls...so please make only positive comments about what you see and hear. Negative words and actions reflect badly on our girls who are working so hard...thank you all for keeping everything POSITIVE!! Also we know this probably seems weird BUT...please do not wear any Tigerette logo items to these type events. We are Tigerettes at school but at exhibitions & contests everything we do, wear, and say is OGHS Guard...that's why you moms got Guard mom tees the day of tryouts. We know it sounds goofy but it is the way we need to work to give the girls their best chance of success. If we look good (even our mommies/families) we perform good...and if we perform good....good things happen!! Thank you in advance for your support & cooperation in this area!!

Now for costume instructions...

Girls will bring their loaded black sequin guard bag AND everything needed to dress IN COSTUME for game with them to school TUESDAY Their bags MUST be brought to the Guard Room by the Tigerette BEFORE SCHOOL!! *****************************************************************************

All policies, procedures, and rules previously stated, texted, posted still apply!!

Some additional notes...

Boyfriends and other friends who attend exhibitions/contests during the season MUST be in the company of an adult. Experience shows that if/when they show up alone we can't guarantee their positive behavior, they become a distraction & liability for our group...so they are with an adult or they stay home. Believe us...we want them to come...we just have to make sure someone is keeping them in check. Band & Guard will be in assigned seats at this event. Space is limited...parents, family, friends, and boyfriends should not expect to sit in or near the band/guard designated area.

Disney Trip payments are due to Donna on or before October 1st...see info packet!

*****************************************************************************

STUDENTS WERE GIVEN VERY EXPLICIT INSTRUCTION TODAY AT SCHOOL IN REGARD TO BEING ON CAMPUS AFTER SCHOOL HOURS AND SCHOOL ATTENDANCE. HERE IS AN EXCERPT OF THE INFO...

Homecoming...

· Do not come on ANY PART of the OAK GROVE HIGH SCHOOL OR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GROUNDS after school hours without permission or without a school board employee.

· If you come to school grounds after school hours you are trespassing on private property.

· If you enter the school grounds after school hours without permission it is a felony.

· If you are caught on campus after school hours AFTER this warning it is defiance of an administrator and you will receive a Class 3 offense.

· If you are a part of a group that vandalizes property you are guilty as well.

Be careful who you hang around with next week!!

3 tardies – writing assignment
6 tardies – ISS 1 day
9 tardies – ISS 1 day – required in school parent conference
12 tardies – ISS 2 days – required in school parent conference
15 tardies – ISS 3 days - required in school parent conference
18 tardies – Class 2

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...

Vandalism vs. Pranks!!

Please make sure that you know & respect the difference in vandalism and pranks when you are out & about during Homecoming week!

Vandalism is anything done to cause harm to a person, a place, or a thing. Vandalism leaves damage that requires "fixing". Vandalism causes people to get in trouble, it damages property, it puts our school activities at risk, and most importantly it puts safety & well being at risk. Examples: spray painting, sugaring, salting, glittering, egging, shave creaming, breaking, tearing up, trenching, stealing, use of profane/suggestive language on signs, or tampering with pets. Vandalism is wrong!!

Pranks are things done that don't cause damage or harm to a person, place, or thing. TP in trees/yards, bed sheet (from thrift store) signs draped over fencing or rails, sidewalk chalk are all examples of pranks that don't require anything but a little cleanup...no damage left after cleanup.

Parents please know where your babies are and who they are with during homecoming week...don't need anyone in trouble and more importantly don't need anyone injured/harmed in any way.

Please know as well that Tigs are welcomed to TP director yards but Tigs will also be involved in those yards being cleaned up this year...want kids to have fun but too busy & tired to clean up the mess!

Please respect teachers who do not share the same opinion as Rebecca & I...some teachers do not want their property touched...stay away from their homes!!

Last but not least...checking out and back in to go eat lunch on Homecoming Day is no longer an option! If we have a mom or group of moms or a church who would like to host the Tigerettes for a "Homecoming Breakfast at 7 a.m." next Friday please contact Donna asap. (clarification..."HOST" meaning coordinate/plan/pay for/provide...place, food/drink, plates/napkins/silverware...Rebecca & I would attend but have nothing to do with coordinating and can't ask girls for money to make it happen.)
