Hope everyone is having a great summer!!
Plans and prep are underway for a great fall experience. Please make sure you use this month before camp to have yourself fully prepared...healthy eating habits, daily exercise, and lots of stretching will help get/keep you in shape. Get outside and acclimate yourself to sun & heat. Good physical health means you look better which means you will be stronger at practice and a more confident performer on the field. We all know that a major part of good physical, mental, & spiritual health is remaining totally free of any/all chemicals that impair your abilities and judgement. Avoiding smoking, alcohol, and drugs are a MUST for you to be all God intended when He created you!! As part of your family life & as part of your guard/social life...24/7 you are important and it DOES matter who you are, who you are with, and what you do!!!
Moms please don't forget the need to have your daughter prepared for being self sufficient and independent as part of this group. The things we need to see day one in our girls were listed in a previous post.
Full Fall Schedule will go home as part of the band handbook on August 5th. It is a sign and return document that will be due back on Tuesday morning. Tig families should expect to see two exhibition dates and 3 contests during September, October, & November.
Goals we have for the fall were also listed in a previous post. Please review & attempt...the better your individual skills are the better we are as a group!!
Guard Summer Camp Required Dates & Times...please note these are different than band & percussion!!

August 12-16, M-F, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
August 20th & 22nd, 5-8 p.m.
August 23rd---First football game of the season.
August 27th is the first day of school for students.
Summer classes, summer jobs, and summer vacations are NOT excused absences...complete all family vacations before August 5th!!
OGHS school registration will be held on campus August 16th. Tigs will be permitted to leave practice to register during their assigned grade level time and then return to practice. Tigs are required to pay the $100 band fee along with other required fees at the time of online and/or school registration.
Tigerettes/Fall Guard Members MUST leave campus promptly at their dismissal time...girls must have someone ready to pickup or a pre-arranged ride home ready to leave campus at dismissal time everyday. Girls are not permitted to be on campus without supervision and thus are not permitted to "hang out" during band or percussion rehearsals. They are only to be on campus at assigned times when directors are present!!
Any absence from required activities must have a verifiable doctor excuse, a verifiable court date, or a verifiable death in immediate family. A family emergency is defined as a situation which requires the specific attention of said Guard member and does not occur on a regular basis.
A new physical form and/or the attending physician's written "clearance" is required for attendance/participation in Tigerette/Fall Guard activities following any illness or hospitalization. Casts, wraps, & supports worn must be accompanied by written instructions from the student's doctor.
Work is not an excused absence...if you need a letter documenting your rehearsal schedule for your employer please let us know. Vacations and other travel should be completed before we start camp OR should be planned to avoid missing practices/events.
If you are on time...you are late!! Arrive 5 or 10 mins before call time to avoid panic. (Guard Captain is expected 15 minutes before call time and 10 minutes after.) Plan ahead so you don't have to run laps...tardy = 1 lap per minute late...double laps if Captain. We caution Guard members & Parents who drive to/from band to make sure that you maintain a timeline that does not put you at risk for getting a speeding ticket and/or something worse. If you are old enough to drive yourself and others to camp you are old enough to get up and leave the house in plenty of time!!! Guard members are not permitted to leave campus during camp. Students may not be in and out of cars during the day. Make sure you have what you need when you come inside each morning. Forgotten items = more laps to run!!
Here is what you bring to camp with you everyday...Sunscreen, Sunglasses, Water Jug, Beach towel AND yoga mat, Guard gloves, Band-aids (if feet & hands tend to blister), Fem items!! You will need to bring your lunch and an XL shopping bag the first day!! You will also bring school owned flags & weapons & stools the first day...leave your personal owned equipment at home.
Here is what you should wear... NO makeup, hair in ponytail, Soffe or Nike type shorts*, Tshirt** Athletic shoes(no converse, keds, or vans), low cut socks *shorts will not be rolled so high that we see cheekage! **due to temp and amount of time we practice we allow tank tops and/or cami style summer tops as long as BRA STRAPS ARE NUDE OR MATCH COLOR. During school you will have to wear a tshirt with your shorts during 5th block every day.
All fall items...uniforms, costumes, pep wear, shoes, bags, etc. will be distributed after lunch the first day of camp. This is always VERY exciting, but does not require Mom's help...Moms will see everything when the girls bring them home that day. Girls will try on every item so we can swap things around and get everyone the best fit possible. So PLEASE wear white or nude color MODEST STYLE undies that day...we don't need sheer bras and cheeky thongs when playing dress up!! You must keep everything looking new and fresh so NO FALL ITEM are to be worn or carried until the assigned time.
NO PICTURES WEARING OR SHOWING ANY FALL ITEM IS PERMITTED ON SOCIAL MEDIA UNTIL THE DIRECTORS GIVE THE OK!!
Parent must get Director approval on any/every alteration made to any item. Alterations are paid for by the parent. Details concerning alterations will be posted on the blog after fitting the group and see what our needs are for the fall. Note as well...NOBODY should be wearing Guard items...new items or old items the same rule...no friends and no cute boys/boyfriends. We will get lots of stuff that first day so make sure you bring an XLARGE SHOPPING BAG with you to hold it all!!
Please note...Tigerettes/Fall Guard with outstanding band debt of any kind will not be issued fall guard items until the debt is paid in full via cash or money order.
BOYS!!! Boyfriends are not permitted at rehearsals. Guard girls who date boys in the band must follow the same rule...you will not be a couple at rehearsals. Please explain this to your boyfriends...if you can't WE WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TOO!!
APPEARANCE...
Please make sure that your hair color and length meet the group guidelines BEFORE arriving the first day of camp. No hair should be too dark or too light. Any highlights must be natural looking. Remember you are expected to work off your natural hair color which is the color at the root and that your hair length must be shoulder or longer when prepared for performance. No bangs. Hair color must remain the same color the entire fall season!! If you have put on a few pounds over the summer please use these remaining days to start to trim it off. Extra pounds inhibit your ability to move with ease. Cut out sodas, drink lots of water, make healthy food choices and exercise...you will be surprised how successful you will be in getting those pounds to disappear!!
No visible piercings other than ears. Belly piercings must be bandaided flat under shirt for every rehearsal and performance. Visible tattoos must be covered with skincolored waterproof bandaids at every rehearsal and performance. These guidelines also apply during each & every school day as well! On game days one pair of lobe earring will be assigned and all other jewelry must be removed.
Looking Ahead...
Plans each week will post here by 1 p.m. each Tuesday during the school year for Tig & parent review. REMIND will be used as well with updates & reminders. Please do not delete remind texts sent your way...keep them so you have them to refer back to as needed. Tigs responsible for ALL content posted or texted. Please read and re-read before you email one of us. Please remember as well that texting us should happen only in urgent situations. We expect & greatly appreciate your respect of our off time when we are at home with our families.
Lastly please remember that OGHS Tigerettes are expected to set the standard for good behavior, good grades, and a good work ethic. 24/7...at school, at home, in your social lives and on social media we always expect the best from you!! This requires a mind, body, and spirit that is free from anything or anybody that alters your thinking and/or your behavior in a negative way. Review the Tigerette Trait list you received the first day you made the team...if you make a solid effort to make sure you try to display those traits everyday it will make a huge difference in your personal success and as well the success of our group as a whole.
We are sooooooo excited about the fall and hope you are too!! See you on August 5th!!
