Happy Summer!!

UPDATED Guard Summer Camp Schedule...band & percussion schedule may be different!!

July 25 - 29 = Camp 8-4, M-F

Aug 1 - Aug 4 = Camp 8-4, M-TH

Tuesday, August 9 = Night practice 6-9 (program pics made)

Thursday, August 11 = School starts for students and we have practice until 4.

Tuesday night and Thursday afternoon rehearsals continue weekly throughout fall.

Additional practices called as needed.

SUMMER NIGHTS...Guard Girls, Band Seniors, & Band Leadership will have movement/marching/spin classes Tuesday afternoons 6-7 p.m. in the guardroom starting June 7th...ending July 19th. All Guard MUST attend at least 4 of the 7 Tuesdays scheduled. Optional for Band Seniors & Leadership. Each person must pay $5 cash per person per Tuesday to pay outside instructors. The 10 Guard Girls trying out for fall weapon line should report at 5 p.m. on 4 of 7 Tuesdays for weapons class.

Final Grades...report cards should be mailed home the first week of June. You will be contacted that week if we find problems with your academic progress that put you on probation or render you ineligible as a performer.

Off Season Hair...all agreed to maintain a shoulder length hairstyle. While we feel sure that some of you may need a good trim as the school year ends, do not think for a second that a chin length hairstyle is okay...no matter your grade level we view this as defiance...hair must be shoulder length or longer when prepared for performance with no bangs...very simply stated, it is not what you agreed to do when you tried out last January so just don’t do it.

Hair Color...NATURAL!!! A few of you have gone too dark or too white...make sure this is corrected before you come back for summer camp. HAIR COLOR CHANGE WILL NOT BE PERMITTED DURING MARCHING OR WINTER SEASON. Use summer as the time to play with color if you must but please do not damage your hair. Before we return to camp please have real hairdressers do highlighting/lowlighting/coloring working off your natural hair color...fyi...the real color of your hair is the color growing out of your head at the root.

Fall Hair & Makeup...girls should learn to do their own hair & makeup this summer...full natural color makeup with red tint lip, sock bun, high pony, front pulled up/back down, and flat ironing on top with hair flat ironed straight in the back, loose curls...no bangs or twigs hanging on face. High School girls should already know these things but...ALL 7th & 8th Grade Girls should also be prepared to handle their own money, order at concessions, pack a show bag with all they need, put on things like pantyhose/bodystockings/spanx type garments without assistance bc regardless of size the group wears them. Guard Moms the old saying "practice makes perfect" is true and this summer is the perfect time to encourage growth & independence by teaching your girl these skills.

Off Season Weight...remember that extra pounds weaken your ability to move & perform with ease. Please eat healthy, avoid sodas, drink water, exercise, and stay in shape...any/all uniform/costume alterations are paid for by parents.

Off Season Skills...please take an honest look at your skills in all areas and work on your own time to improve in the off season. Flags, weapons, and dance!!

Cell Phones...all girls need one for communication when we get to camp. REMIND must be installed and notifications for that app must be on at all times. If phones scare you or your daughter is not trustworthy please simply find/install parent security apps that monitor & even control your daughter's cell habits.

Social Media...in today’s world, social media plays a huge part in our day-to-day lives. In efforts to keep our social media profiles showing nothing but our best, here are a few tips to keeping your profile clean, powerful and positive this summer. First, avoid using offensive or derogatory language on social media sites such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and all those anonymous posting apps. Lots of people have access to these sites and you want to be sure to present the best YOU possible. Next, keep personal arguments off social media sites and remember to keep your photos respectable. Social media sites are no place for mean words or for photos that suggest anything other than a positive image. One last online behavior to avoid is the most current trend in social media--posting a location, status, or photo that "appears positive" but in reality is only being put out there to jab at someone or hurt their feelings...a location, post, or pic intended solely to let others know they are NOT included is an example of hurtful, negative behavior that we should all work hard to avoid. So please, consider all these things & think before you post...the old saying still rings true...if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all!! (these social media tips apply to your texting and email as well bc everyone screen shots things!!)

Private Lessons...those who have asked about taking private lessons this summer may contact Sydney 532-7258 or Alyssa 394-0333 to arrange day/time/plans. Private lessons are optional and will be held outside at memorial park $25 cash per hour this summer...due at time of lesson...no prepay or pay laters!! Private lessons are no longer provided at folks homes and no small group lessons available since we have Tuesdays scheduled this summer. Guard girls who can't drive MUST have a MOM wait in the car or walk at the park during the lesson. Anyone scheduling private lessons understands a risk of injury is involved AND that their personal health/accident insurance would be used to handle any such injury. College students will not be held liable or responsible for accidents or injury coming to the lesson, during the lesson, or leaving the lesson.

Last but not least...please make a habit of checking our blog this summer and make sure your REMIND APP is installed with notifications ON!! If you need to know something you should be able to find it on here or get a text about it. The blog & REMIND have replaced notes home. It is a quicker and more effective way for us to get you the info needed. Tigerettes are held accountable for everything posted in either place.

Please note: the Guard blog may contain different info than for the Band...Tigs always follow GUARD instructions. Thanks!!! D & R

Philippians 4:8...finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. :0)
